Young, Married, need advice (militant/college knowledge preferred!)?

( If you don't feel like reading my interpretation, question is at bottom )

As of now I am a Correctional Officer for the state of texas. I work full time while my wife goes to college full time.

I have no problem with this, however, her insurance is going to be ~220 a month. ( health )

While money is not the issue here, I am still sure that I will be more financially secure in the military granted the GI bill, rent and insurance.

My wife completely fails to see this. She thinks that just because I am going into the military it will not be possible to go to college because we will have to move. ( I don't know how often the average person has to move is. When I was a kid, my dad, being in the Air Force was stationed for YEARS on one base, so this may be my dilemma seeing her point of view)

I am pretty much tired of being around convicts all day. I am tired of this boring little town. I want to go to places, but I also want her to be happy and get her education.

Is it possible for my wife to get her education if I am employed in the military? Will it be harder?

Also, which branch moves less often?Young, Married, need advice (militant/college knowledge preferred!)?
If your wife moves with you, then her education opportunities will only be limited by what schools are in the vicinity of your duty station. It won't be any harder or easier for her to get her education.

Nowadays, they all move at about the same rate. You can probably expect to move every 3-4 years. If you're looking for quality of life I would say Coast Guard 1st, then Air Force.Young, Married, need advice (militant/college knowledge preferred!)?
Well, as long as there are no children to worry about she doesn't have to move around just because you get posted, but she may prefer to. It's all the luck of the draw just now. With some hot wars in Afghanistan and Iraq plus policing duties around the world with NATO in Europe and with our treaty requirements in Korea the Services are stretched pretty thin (I saw a newspaper photo of a bunch of grunts in an Afghan street and it identified one as a Navy Corpsman!!).

So it's impossible to say when, where and for how long you could be posted.

It might be possible with your prison experience (on the right side of the bars!) to get into the Military Police - but I don't know if this is an option you can make before entry. Otherwise being young and fit they are more likely to want to use you in a combat role.

At the end of the day the choice is yours. Your wife's education is important but unless she can compromise either she will have to transfer each time you get posted or perhaps to an at-home study course.
Hi! I was an Air Force active duty wife for 10 years. Every base we were at had education opportunities. There were college reps at all of the bases- even overseas bases. You can even take CLEP tests right on base. They also have reps for online only colleges.

He finished his enlistment in June 09 and we were stationed at 3 different bases. We were at the first base for 4 years. We did a base swap to get out of there. We could have been there forever. We were at our second base for 4 years as well and only got out of there because we wanted to(and we knew someone in personnel that helped us to better our chances of getting a new base assignment). My husband finished up his enlistment at our third base. Last I heard, the Air Force was not moving as much because their funds were limited.

In my opinion, it is absolutely possible for her to get an education no matter which base you are at. I would say, however, that the Air Force is more catered to a 'family oriented lifestyle' and that may be your best bet.
